Chain Reaction: Portland’s all (white) male Bike Dance Crew
This is the kind of thing you have time to do when you don’t spend every night sitting on a barstool. I’d bet cash that Chain Reaction is not only an all-male, all-white, BMX dance crew—I’d bet that it’s also a great place for the straight edgers to meet up without the pressures to drink alcohol and use illegal drugs. I seriously considered moving to Portland for the bike culture until I found out how far they were taking it. There’s also a women’s bike dance group called Sprockettes, in case you were worried about equality of the bike sexes in Portland.

Well they’re all white because Portland is a racially divided town. Yeah fucking weird liberal hippies living in a segregated city.
But what I really take offense to is the “straight edgers” comment! I’m friends with all of them, and we like to drink, get debaucherous, and ride bikes fast! They are far from the straight edge cycling sect in PDX.

Oh, and FWIW the Sprockettes will be on tour this summer with New Belgium’s Tour de Fat: http://sprockettes.org/

I might think of not laughing long enough to care about bike dancing as soon as some manufacturer makes bike- dance-specific gloves, like the ones worn in the photo. Maybe a new line of fruit boots is in the works, too!
This reminds me of the “King of the Hill” episode where Bobby takes to dancing with the family dog.

Mad because they were told to leave their bikes outside of the ballet studio? So now they want to get back at P-town and bore us to death.

Actually Tyrone
Lill Bobby Hill takes to dancing with the neighbors dog since Hank is bent that he was dancing with Ladybird. But then Hank and Ladybird hit it off and crazy times after that.

i don’t know if you all remember the best movie OF ALL TIME or not, but there is an incredible bike dancing segment in it! remember RAD? when they both roll into the high school gym, her precariously perched on the handlebars in a graceful poise, him riding the most memorizing and beautiful wheelie i have ever seen…i mean come on people, RAD made bike dancing THE SHIT!
