Hiking the AT (With an Inoperable Brain Tumor)
By Rocky Thompson on March 29th, 2012In February 2012 Bill Powel was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. His doctors say he’ll have 3 to 5 years of medicine-controlled symptoms before things “started to go south.” In his words: “So with that diagnosis I decided to “go south” a little earlier.”
He’s planning to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail southbound, going from Mount Katahdin to Spring Mountain in Georgia, finishing in November. His plan is to write a book after the journey, and on the way he’ll be posting to The Dusty Camel. To fund his trip, he started a Kickstarter page that hit the $6,000 goal with plenty of time to go. Good luck, Bill, looking forward to hearing about the trip.
