Nazi Mountaineers in New Climbing Movie
By Rocky Thompson on December 9th, 2009
Based on a true story of a 1936 competition to be the first to climb the north face of the Eiger, the film North Face follows two German climbers up the side of the mountain and into a storm. There is of course romance and Nazi villainy and a rival Austrian climbing team chasing after them. From the preview we can tell that the filmmaker has avoided bolt guns, nitroglycerin, and Chris O’Donnell (the pitfalls of climbing movies), but it appears the North Face climbers still have trouble rappelling off the ends of ropes. Hopefully The North Face is cool with a Nazi climbing movie sharing the name of their multi-national corporation, otherwise this filmmaker might run into some issues before the January 29 launch date.
Has it only just come out over there?
It’s been out on blu-ray and dvd for a while in the UK (and I assume Europe)
Really? Is it any good?
