Granite Gear and Simple Pleasures, Like Drinking Water

By Rocky Thompson on July 23rd, 2009

I found out last night that Granite Gear spends a week driving to the Outdoor Retailer tradeshow and a week back from their base in Minnesota. During each trip they stop at two desert trails and cache 500 gallons of water for hikers. They do each trail twice a year, and each time they refill them the caches are dry. Also, they threw a great parking lot party last night and only served 5 kinds of meat (brats, chicken, salmon, brisket, Oreos) and chips.

They also built a stuff sack that beats all others. The Uberlight CTF3 Dry Sack is made with some space age NASA crap that’s strong enough to be filled with water and dropped over a cliff or dragged over rocks. The fabric doesn’t stretch and feels impossible to tear. Granite Gear also makes this felt covered stuff sack called the PillowSack. Cram it with dirty underwear and use it as a pillow, or blow up a Franzia wine bladder and put it in there when you’re ready to pass out.

if this new stuff sack is this tuff and light, why don`t they make it large enough to be a pack liner?
