GoPro HERO Wide-Angle Cameras

In a culture of Twitter, Facebook, blogging, and YouTube we’ve come to love over sharing. It’s nice when a company introduces a new product to make that over sharing more seamless and cheaper. GoPro Cameras with their many action sport mounting devices now have a wide-angle camera out. The GoPro Helmet HERO Wide sells for $190 and ratchets onto the top of your lid for easy shooting and eventual uploading to YouTube.

Hopefully these things are easier to use, and produce better quality images now. Tried out an earlier version (regular lens, same body) on a weekend of surfing in the PNW and I wouldn’t ever use one again. The resulting photos were horrendous, the viewfinder is practically useless, and the shutter release was difficult to push in a way that actually turned the video on or snapped a still frame. I missed 4 out of 5 attempted shots.

The one I used had a bit of a learning curve too. “Is it on, is the red light blinking???” Were common conversations, but the footy was worth the struggle.

I agree with the learning curve. I took some video on a vacation of snokeling and it came out pretty cool. Than I took another 45 min of video while I walked around carrying the thing. I was drunk as hell at the time, so that might have something to do with it maybe.

The images are stable as hell also, I’ve done some mtbiking with it and it preforms well. Curious to see how she holds up in subzero temps.

I have an older version too, and I LOVE it. Sure it takes some getting used to, but doesn’t everthing worth having? You have to use it to get used to it and figure out how it best works for you. The great part is its all digital and if you don’t like it, delete it. Take lots of pictures and lots of video and trash what you don’t want. I rarely go out on an adventure without mine. Great product, wish I had the wide angle too.
