When the idea of the Powsurf Chronicles was pitched, I suspect that no one was anticipating such a garbage snowpack. The crew gets creative and finds ways of coping in Episode One - Low Tide. Ah, the wild things we do to keep our sports fun…well, gotta go climb on my clunker for a repack race.
Given the choice between flying and snowboarding this Russian crow chooses to rip up and down a snow-covered rooftop on his board. It’s probably a sullen teenage crow that’s trying to rebel from its parents. I’m really glad we never got into a full blown war with Russia - its snowboarding crow would dismantle our waterskiing squirrel.
Survival videos are usually sound like they were shot inside of a tin shed using a VHS camcorder that was later transferred to DVD and uploaded to YouTube in a low-res format to accommodate the filmmaker’s dial-up modem. Not so with this feather stick demonstration. The filmmaker shot it one rainy day and shows how to make a fire for survival. I may actually survive being lost in the woods if they make enough of this style of video.
Frontsidefly.com put out this soulful movie from a fly fishing trip to “övre vindelälven,” wherever or whatever that may be. If it’s on another planet, than it’s a planet with fantastic sunsets and trout streams. Really a fantastic piece. Check out Frontsidefly for several more.
If you think the name says it all, you’re right. A paraglider manages to get hit by a van while making some dynamic moves just before landing. This graceful sport just earned its spot in the funniest-home-videos-guy-kicked-in-the-balls genre. Nice work on the appropriately timed slide whistle as well.
It looks like a bit of snow might finally be hitting Utah. So these guys won’t have to worry about catching toe-side edges while being dragged at 50mph through the salt flats. I would have loved to see them get behind one of those cars that goes 300mph out there.
The North Face took Conrad Anker and Backcountry.com Athlete Renan Ozturk to Taiwan to shoot this video about The North Face’s Journey to Sustainability. The North Face isn’t necessarily known for their sustainability ethos, but green is efficient, and efficient saves money, and they’re a massive company that has made a fortune on outdoor gear - they owe the outdoors one, to say the least.
I love that David Attenborough can read the lyrics to What a Wonderful World and it works. Imagine if we tried to do this in America - we’d have to get William Shatner to read it. Attenborough is also the voice of the upcoming Frozen Planet, which was recently on the BBC in the UK and will come to Discovery in the US next year.
