A new website, Female Wolfpack, is designed to help elevate the status of pro and amateur female athletes who are doing things cooler than all of us. In their own words, “We hope to be a source for both face-melting and inspiration.” Based on the first trailer, it looks like they’re off to a good start.

Good news for skiers and lovers of great film work: Sweetgrass Productions has a few film out. Valhalla is “the tale of one man’s search to rediscover the freedom of his youth.” Doing so requires him to ski an extraordinary amount of fantastic powder and jumped around shirtless/naked. Shot in a lo-fi, 70s style, you wouldn’t know it was recent if not for all the modern gear and callouts to the sponsors. It looks like a fantastic piece.

You Should Go See the Movie Chasing Ice

Tuesday, November 20th, 2012

I’m suggesting you go see the film Chasing Ice in spite of the fact that they started a petition on their site trying to get people to pledge to see the film. Ugh, talk about overuse of petitions. Even if you’re one of the insane people who doesn’t accept the science behind climate change (and virtually every credible scientist accepts it), you’ll find it’s a beautifully shot look at some of the most remote stretches of Earth. They even park two kids on a glacier for a month in the hope that they’ll be there to shoot a massive calving event, hilarious! The film is also a call to action of sorts, and James Balog does it in a way Al Gore was too polarizing to achieve. It’s a fantastic film shot in beautiful places. Go, see it.

Big mountain icon Xavier de Le Rue and TimeLine Films have a trailer out for their upcoming film White Noise. Watch it online, or don’t. You can wait for the full length version of the film that will be posted online for free in the third week of November. When good skiers land big sponsors that want marquee spots in widely seen ski films, we all win. Just make sure you set aside some time to watch all the logos during the last third of the film.
