Monday, April 8th, 2013

Creator of the film Alchemy, Henry Jun Wah Lee says it’s “a short film about transformation. In nature, everything is constantly changing: the earth, the sky, the stars, and all living things.” I would call it, “time lapse set to very dramatic music, but, you know, really good time lapse.

Video: White Southwest Timelapse

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

These landscape time lapses where popular for a while there, but then everyone and their mother started making them and they fell out of favor. But a good video still counts, and when you have the landscapes of the American Southwest combined with excellent winter light, plenty of patience, and a dusting of snow, then you have yourself a winner.

Anyone can hike into the Canyonlands National Park and make a video of the landscape. You need to have access to slightly more sophisticated travel plans to shoot one of the Earth from above. This video was shot by Ron Garan and the crew on the International Space Station over the course of three months this year. Soaring over the planet serves as a nice reminder that our incredibly thin ozone layer is all that stands between us and complete annihilation.

Your one friend has a synthesizer app on his phone and the other has a high end camera and a Vimeo Plus account – time to make a fantastic time lapse video. Ocean Sky by Alex Cherney was shot in Australia over the course of a couple years, and will rightfully take its place among the hundreds of wonderful time lapse nature videos being made every day. I wonder how much longer it’s going to take before we all start getting really sick of these videos?

Okay, I know we’re all sick of these HD time lapse videos by now. Sure, you can set one up on your GoPro and every high school kid is doing it, but that doesn’t mean they’re all terrible. Photographer Guido (real name) Perrini has shot the latest Xavier de le Rue sessions, and he also setup this time lapse with tracking shots at the local resort. Worth watching.
