Dean Potter Moonwalk

Friday, January 11th, 2013

Madman adventurer Dean Potter highlines at Cathedral Peak as the sun drops and moon rises. Photographer Mikey Schaefer shot it from over a mile away using some high end equipment to make the moon appear huge. I suspect he was more nervous about timing the walk than Dean was about falling. This video, among others, will be featured in an upcoming National Geographic special on Dean.

Slacklining Between Moving Trucks

Tuesday, August 21st, 2012

Do yourself a favor and skip to 1:30 in this video. “World record-holding highliner” Faith Dickey walks a rope strung between two semi trucks as they speed towards a tunnel. Will she make it before they hit the tunnel breaking her line in half? (Yes, you definitely would have already heard about this video if the woman died.) The stunt was setup by Volvo to promote their new semi-trucks…isn’t it odd they’re called “semis” when they’re big trucks? Shouldn’t El Caminos be called “semi-trucks”?

“I’m not sure I can hold on with my toes with the backpack on too.” “But at least you have a parachute.” The Flight of the Frenchies was sent to me by a friend who said, “A little more respect for the French. Just a little.”

Combing BASE and slacklining is nothing new, but this crew takes it to impressive heights for a new feature documentary that they shot last summer. Nice job on the song selection considering that, well, they’re French.

Highlining California

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

You have to hand it to rock climbers for making slacklining kind of cool. Before they started doing it during rest days at camp, tightrope walking was the wheelhouse of magicians and trapeze artists. A group of friends took 36 days to setup 14 slacklines and make this film. They also have a website selling their DVD.
