This video from a Scuba diver off the coast of Maui looks like the trailer to a horror movie. Apparently the guy shooting is parked just off a deep ridge and avoids the undertow, but his subject is pulled into the vortex. Good news in the YouTube description: “John Hoover, author, takes a ride on the wild side at Nakalele point on Maui. No Hoovers were harmed in the making of this video.” Apparently these undertows can hit over 30mph.

An underwater photographer shooting at night off Hawaii lost his $10,000 camera to a passing manta ray. It’s kind of like the time Sean Penn punched a paparazzi in the face and trashed his camera, except this time we have it all on tape. The camera was running the entire time the manta ray had it, and it came back with some pretty high quality shots. The light was still on the camera so the team managed to recover it after the ray’s 8-minute swim.
