Colder, Trailer for Save the Poles Documentary

Friday, August 12th, 2011

If you doubted that Eric Larsen was from Minnesota your doubts can be laid to rest after watching the trailer for his upcoming film Colder. The bold modern day polar explorer narrates this piece, and his accent make me feel like I’m back in the Country Bar in Uptown Minneapolis. Fantastic guy, I’m sure, and his accomplishments over 2009 speak for themselves: overland to the North and South Poles and to the summit of Everest in fall. Looks to be an interesting film.

Backcountry.com Athlete Cedar Wright shot this short profile on alpinist Pete Athans while he was in Nepal over the winter. Pete’s been in Nepal for ages, and now he’s there giving back through his education initiatives. Inspired? Nice, now you owe him cash for that motivational speech.

The Dark Side of the Lens

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

A friend sent me this video months ago but I only got around to watching it recently. Sorry for the delay on this fantastic short video about surfing and filming Irish surfers. It takes a few moments to get used to the accents on the Dark Side of the Lens, but at least there’s plenty of great photography to admire even if you never catch on to what he’s saying.

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

Do you have a favorite hellhole on Earth? This short film looks as the Salton Sea, the largest lake in California that was accidentally created when the Colorado River was diverted. It’s a fantastic story, a largely forgotten part of U.S. history told by the writer Ransom Riggs.

The Brain Farm crew that shot The Art of Flight with Travis Rice descended upon the now-closed Aspen resort to build a 90-foot kicker and shoot a private park and pipe session this week. ESPN sent a photographer over to get some shots of the crazy gear Brain Farm has at their disposal - Snowcat truck with a crane and carbon fiber encased cameras? Why not. If you’re sick of watching The Art of Flight trailer over and over, check out the Brain Farm channel on YouTube.
