Want to See All of Antarctica at 4mph? Do I have a Job for You

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

Adventurer Ollie Hicks is gearing up to try and row his boat all the way around Antarctica, but he can’t do it alone. He’ll hire an operations manager for the year and pay him or her the equivalent of about $30k. That doesn’t sound like a lot of money, but I don’t think income tax is very high in Antarctica, plus there aren’t many places to spend your cash. You need to be a UK citizen and apply by February 19th.

Eric Larsen and Save the Poles

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

I’m pretty sure I used to work with Eric Larsen back at Midwest Mountaineering, but it’s hard to say because there are 6 pages of ‘Eric Larsen’ in the Minneapolis phone book. This particular Eric Larsen has completed the Save the Poles expedition that he conceived back in 2007. In one year, he stood at the North Pole, South Pole, and the summit of Mount Everest. He was among the last to summit Everest this season rounding out his journey. Well done, Eric. I hope I never borrowed money from you when we worked together.

Circling the Globe in 25 Chunks of 1000 Miles

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Dave Cornwaithe, the guy who skateboarded the length of England and Australia, will attempt to circle the globe on 25 separate trips. He’ll use a skateboard for one or two trips, but he’ll mostly be using other types of human powered transport. He’ll stand-up paddle some rivers, kayak others, paraglide, kite ski, ride horses, etc. He’s hoping to raise about $2 million for the Blue Project, which protects coral reefs. He’ll embark Expedition1000 sometime in 2011.
