The North Face’s Denali Experiment

The Denali Experiment from The North Face (unrelated to the Denali jacket prized on college campuses around the U.S.) is a Camp 4 Collective production featuring Sage Cattabriga-Alosa and big mountain snowboarder Lucas Debari. It’s directed by Jimmy Chin and edited by Backcountry.com Athlete Renan Ozturk. The group assembled a dream team of climbers and mountaineers, including Conrad Anker, Ingrid Backstrom and several other North Face Athletes. The result is this fantastic 15-minute video.

Man Runs 92-Mile Road Through Denali

A 34-year-old marathoner became the first man to complete a run of the entire 92-mile road through Denali National Park. It took him 25 hours while a friend pedaled alongside on a bicycle. Besides a sore hip the biggest danger on the way was nearly running head on into a caribou that crossed his path. [ more... ]

Prehistoric Bird Discovered in Denali

Well, specifically its fossilized tracks were discovered, but we’re not splitting hairs here. An archaeology team working between 2006-10 discovered abundant bird tracks from some massive creature, and after a bit of research they discovered that this particular bird was uncategorized. Climbing Denali Solo in January

Potential Climbing Fee Increase at Denali National Park

Park officials are considering an increase in climbing fees on Mount McKinley. Currently it costs $200 for each climbing permit, and the fees in Denali were last raised from $150 in 2005. The interesting thing is that for each Denali climber, the park spends about $1,200. Those costs cover staff, mountaineering programs, and…rescues. I guess [ more... ]

Want a Climbing Permit in Denali? They Might be Tougher (or Easier) to Get Next Year.
