Mountain Biking Ice-Covered Bobsled Track

Monday, March 11th, 2013

This very German bike company is promoting their new bike with a very German YouTube video of two guys riding down an icy bobsled track. Their video is called “The new Radon Slide 130 29″ is chasing James Bond 007 in the bob run!” and it doesn’t have any James Bond footage, but it does have a minute of two guys sitting on a couch drinking beers together. It’s all very German.

The Tour Divide race runs from Banff to New Mexico covering about 2700 miles with over 2000ft of elevation gain. Jay Petervary sets the world record for the ride in his final run on the race at just over 15 days. Petervary indulges in a sleeping bag this time around, where he logs about four hours each night between hammering on his pedals and fixing flats.

BMX 16ft Full Pipe

Monday, November 19th, 2012

I’d tell you what time to jump for the full pipe ride, but then you’d miss all the insane riding before it. Insane. Red Bull’s Full Circle is a BMX situation that sends a handful of their athlestes around the world on a ‘ride and seek’ series. This one takes place in Wyoming, on what I’m guessing is a former ICBM base.

Wednesday, October 10th, 2012

This pretty much destroys my meek claims that I have the wrong mountain bike to ride a certain section of trail. Martyn Ashton takes the $16k road bike used by Team Sky’s Bradley Wiggins & Mark Cavendish for a circus ride. And the craziest move? Using WD-40 on the chain.

Wednesday, July 25th, 2012

At least one judge in Manhattan is court-ordering bike etiquette classes for cyclists who break the law during their morning commutes. The class comes after a day of community service picking up spent condoms in Times Square, when eight evil-doers gathered in a windowless basement for a 90-minute class on how not to ride like [ more... ]

Bike Helmet Consumer Reports Testing

Tuesday, June 5th, 2012

The customer advocacy folks at Consumer Reports ran 13 bike helmets through the ringer to some interesting results. They did an impact test measuring how bad your head would get take the knock, and they also measured chinstrap strength. Impact testing makes sense, but chinstrap strength? I don’t know anyone who’s suffered an injury because [ more... ]
