An Ingredient in Beer Could Fight Colds

Wednesday, December 12th, 2012

A new study, that happens to be commissioned by Sapporo Breweries (don’t read anything into that, let’s give them the benefit of the doubt) has found that an active ingredient in beer could help the human body fight the virus behind colds. One small caveat is that an adult would have to drink about 30 [ more... ]

Alta 75th Anniversary Ale

Tuesday, November 6th, 2012

In honor of their 75th anniversary, Alta has teamed up with Wasatch Brewing to create an anniversary ale. Their blog post making the announcement says that in 1878, of the 47 businesses listed in the Alta directory 26 were saloons. Times change, huh? I have high hopes for Utah and their liquor laws. Perhaps by [ more... ]

Monday, August 13th, 2012

Belgian cyclist Gijs Van Hoecke was sent home from the Olympics before last night’s Closing Ceremonies when he unceremoniously drank his face off at a British club and had to be dragged off the premises. It’s wonderful when people dedicate all of their life to training for the Olympics and win gold, but the fact [ more... ]

Bears Destroy Cabin and Drink 100 Beers

Monday, August 13th, 2012

A bear and her three cubs tore the wall off a Norwegian cabin and ate all of the marshmallows, chocolate syrup, and drank 100 cans of beer. “The cabin has the stench of a right old piss up, trash, and bears.” The cabin was utterly destroyed; all the beds were trashed, all the appliances dashed [ more... ]

Condensed Beer For Backpackers

Friday, August 10th, 2012

My old coworker Kris never understood backpacking. “I just don’t understand why you’d carry the keg that far from the car?” he was fond of saying. Good news for Kris, and other backcountry beer addicts who don’t relish carrying cans of beer in their packs. Pat’s Backcountry Beverages will begin offering a dehydrated beer in [ more... ]

Ski Pole Repair and Beer

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

I’ve been saving beer cans in case I need to repair a broken ski pole for ten years. I’m near maxed out at my storage unit. Backcountry Magazine offers a useful tip, at least it’s useful in justifying drinking beer all summer with your ski buddies. See how to use a couple hose clamps and [ more... ]

Man Stranded in Nome, AK Survives on Beer

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

A man in Nome, Alaska was stranded for 60 hours after “seeing how far north he could get on his way out of town.” He found out when his car hit a snowdrift and became stuck. Then he had plenty of time to think about how he should have dressed warmer, packed survival gear in [ more... ]

Miller Time, Squaw, 1981

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

Yes, this video begins with 10 seconds of test patterns. Just pretend you’re 7 years old again and woke up at 4am to watch cartoons. This is a long Miller High Life commercial from 1981 that was shot at Squaw Valley and features two hot-doggin’ members of the ski patrol. It’s no wonder so many of us grew up wanting to go west to ski.

N/A Beer Sports Drinks

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

A non-alcoholic beer sports drink? I thought that’s pretty much what Michelob Ultra was. Turns out that stuff has a bit of alcohol. The German brewer Erdinger is now offering something called “Alkoholfrei” and marketing it to the sports crowd. I don’t speak German, but I’m pretty sure Alkoholfrei means ‘unleaded’ in English. I love [ more... ]
