Tuesday, May 14th, 2013

Jim Rippey joins Erik Roner in giving his friend and mentor Shane McConkey’s snowmobile a fitting send off. The duo took Shane McConkey’s old Polaris off an 800ft cliff in Canada. (Don’t worry, they cleaned up afterwards.) Roner took to Reddit the same day the video came out to answer questions.

Tuesday, May 7th, 2013

Backcountry.com Athlete KC Deane put out this POV of his 2013 season that takes him from Alaska to Japan, and on one memorable run, beneath an avalanche (it’s right at the beginning). All things considered, it looks like a pretty good year.

Climbing El Dorado State Park with Cedar Wright

Wednesday, February 20th, 2013

Backcountry.com Athlete Cedar Wright pays his bills with a check from Blue Water ropes in this video where he heads out to climb his current hometown of Boulder on a winter day. For a minute there I thought I had a second tab open on my browser playing another video, but no, all that sound was coming from  this short film made by Cedar. As far as climbing films go it has it all: climbing, pug tossing, ropes, the list goes on.

Roner Does Squaw

Thursday, February 14th, 2013

Coming off a broken femur in Alaska at the end of last season, Backcountry.com Athlete Erik Roner offers a lesson on how to take down Squaw Valley. It’s a look back at some of the days of early base jumping with Saucer Boy, clearly one of Roner’s inspirations. Hot tubs, wind tunnels, and swimming Lake Tahoe. All that’s missing is the $7 ATM fee in the casinos.

Mission Antarctic: Episode 1

Thursday, February 14th, 2013

Backcountry.com Athlete Renan Ozturk joined Xavier de Le Rue on Mission Antarctic, a North Face and Swatch- sponsored venture to the seventh continent. After braving the Drake Passage on their little sailboat out ofom Ushuia, skiing stuff this crazy probably seems easy. I’d like to know how they got the external shots of the boat in heavy seas, perhaps running aboard their dinghy. Anyway, the full-length video’s not out until Fall 2013. Looking forward to some more of these episodes.

Roner Vison: Umbrella Skydive

Thursday, November 15th, 2012

Backcountry.com Athlete Erik Roner goes Mary Poppins in the latest Roner Vision when he takes a hot air balloon up high enough to try floating down on an umbrella. Ah, the life of a skier off-season, and Roner had plenty of time to come up with stuff like this since his off season lasted for 8 months after a broken femur ended last year prematurely. …if you want to get right to the jump, it begins at about 4:33.
