Japanese Man Takes Off for World Stroll

Friday, August 19th, 2011

A Japanese man fed up with the daily grind threw his handful of belongings into a rickshaw and began ambling around the world. He’s made it through Asia (that’s a big one), Europe and now he’s in North America. It looks like he skipped the U.S. in favor of the highline, Canada. I’m sure it’s just because it’s too humid in the U.S. right now, let’s not take it personally. His only complaint on the road has been the high price of beer in Canada. “In Europe, I drink every night. Some place you get beer for 60 cents.”

The Danger of Travel: Bats on a Plane

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

A nationwide search is being conducted for those who lived through a ‘bat on a plane’ scenario on a Delta flight from Wisconsin to Atlanta. The bat popped out once the plane was airborne and took several laps up and down the aisle. A passenger shot video while the mammal flew around getting swatted from time to time. So why is the airline looking for these passengers? No, it’s not for free SkyMiles and upgrades on the next flight, it’s that they could have possibly contracted rabies. It’s highly unlikely, but the bat was never caught for testing.

Cat and Man Journey 9,000 Miles

Friday, August 5th, 2011

This cat and his man companion have traveled over 9,000 miles together. It looks like the cat hardly walked at all, but that’s to be expected. The guy (or maybe the cat) built a website about their travels together, but the English-language version isn’t exactly firing.

A Site that Finds Your Lost Camera

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

Losing gear is part of the perils of travel, though it’s especially painful to get a camera stolen since they’re so expensive. Now a website called Stolen Camera Finder says that it has a way to track down your lost goods. You can drag a drop on of your photos into it, and it’ll sift though the data in your photos to see if there are any other photos on photo-sharing websites that have been shot using your lost or stolen camera. Will it work? Who knows, but even if it does you might not want to know whose dirty hands your lost goods have fallen into. After all, it’s not like the site goes and beats up the guy who took it.

Google’s Streetview Reaches Antarctica

Monday, October 4th, 2010

Cubicle travelers can now step onto the seventh continent while working on the company’s dime. Google announced last week that its privacy-invading Streetview project has now stretched all the way to Antarctica. It sounds like a member of their Streetview team happened to be taking a vacation to Antarctica with his wife, so he toted along some of the camera equipment and collected some penguin photos on the shore. I’m a big fan of Streetview, but then again it’s never caught me stealing a car or selling drugs on the street. Hopefully the penguins don’t file their own lawsuit for invasion of privacy.
