The River Why being Made into a Movie

The River Why will soon join A River Runs Through It and Big Trouble in Little China as the best movies ever made about fly fishing. It doesn’t even really matter if it’s any good because these are the only movies to tackle the rough, underground street fighting life of a fly fisherman. The first half of the book is a hilarious read that culminates (in my mind) with a pregnant mom kicking open her front door to blast a dog chasing her fisherman son Gus Orviston with a shotgun, though the story takes a turn into the “innocence lost” category later when the kid strikes out on his own and spends all his days fishing. The IMDB page says the movie’s about, “A fisherman [that] abandons his big-city life to find himself in the wild,” so I guess we can assume that they depart the original story quite a bit. If you haven’t read the book, and every once in awhile make a futile attempt at fly casting (like me), then it’s definitely worth a read.

Even though I love the book and have read it a few times and passed it onto others I will not see this movie.
I value the imagery and the story the way it plays out in my imagination much more.
Just sit down and read the book and you won’t be disappointed.

Here’s what I want to know: How does the dog carry a shotgun while chasing the boy?
