Exploding Bike Locks and Other Theft Deterrents

exploding-lock

People are going nuts about getting this exploding bike lock. It’s as if you told them that a cyclist ran over someone driving a tank Hummer and left him for dead—I’m saying they’re pretty stoked. Of course, I can see why the idea of getting retribution against a bike thief has captured the imagination of so many cyclists. This concept lock would have an exploding dye pack so that you’d be able to identify in the police lineup the mastermind who stole your Sanchez. I’m not sure dye packs would be much of a deterrent since the types of people who steal bikes are the same guys who huff spray paint. Wend thought it’d be better to load the bike locks with a capacitor cut out of a TV to give the thief a potentially fatal shock. A great idea until you forget to discharge the lock before taking it off to ride home. A better idea is a lock that calls your cell phone and then offers the option of a remote hub lock—you’d of course be able to choose if you wanted to lock both hubs or just the front one.

all great ideas. what about putting a gps unit in or a LoJack type device. then you’d be able to find the whole damn u-haul crossing county lines with your bike and 50 of your friends too.

A remote front hub lock would be awesome. Some thief hauling on your stolen goods and wham, over the handlebars. That would be sweet. A remote front hub lock, with gps and remote would be perfect.
