Of Course the Pedal-Powered Zeppelin is a Recumbent

pedal-blimp

A pedal-powered blimp failed to make it across the English Channel—what could have possibly gone wrong? Yves Rossy’s obsession with pedal-powered flight has driven him to madness and the creation this 16-meter blimp. The Zeppy moves at a top speed of 12mph pushed forward by twin 10-foot propellers. The Frenchman would have made the channel crossing if a shift in winds hadn’t ruined his day 3/4 of the way across—of course, if the big ballon is so reliant on winds, you could probably just not pedal and try to launch it in a nice tailwind. A commercial version of the Zeppy would be sick—I’d love to see my childhood dream of flying cars shelved in favor of flying bikes.
