The Good, The Bad, and The Run Over Bikers

andys-bike

An old guy driving a van nearly killed a teacher in Salt Lake who was biking to work the other morning. A bunch of us at Backcountry.com know the rider, and I can’t really go into detail about how cool he is in case some of his students read this, so you’ll just have to take my word for it—he’s a cool guy. Andy Chapman’s bike was broken into three pieces and his limited-edition helmet looks like something I puked up, but he’ll be okay. Then again, will you be okay if you don’t donate a few dollars to his Get Well Fund? Probably not, you’ll just pile on more self-loathing and watch another rerun of M.A.S.H. You sick bastard.

In news related only in that it involved a bike and an asshole—the rider who was bodyslammed by an NYPD officer (who was caught on video) is suing the police for assault and false imprisonment.  Good luck, buddy. Suing the police for assault is like trying to handout speeding tickets at the Indy 500.

I hope he is OK. This is such a HUGE problem everywhere. I live in Michigan and I can’t get over how many people get hit on bikes. Most people go crazy when you put them at the wheel of a car. I wish there was a solution.

I’m glad that he was wearing a helmet! I live in New Orleans and personally know at least 2 people who have been hit by cars while riding. Also, a friend of a friend was riding her bike on Magazine St.-famous for relaxing shopping-and a woman rolled down the car window an yelled at her to “get on the sidewalk”. wtf?

Thanks for donating Bill. I really appreciate you helping out my bro. Andy got to go home on Friday after the doctors took out 40 stitches (of more than 80). He’s doing about as good as can be expected given all the injuries, but he’s not too stoked on a mandatory 10-month break from climbing.

over the years i have happily traded goods for money with the goat. i think the goat should sack up and match all donations to the fund.
