Honor the Stop: Committing to Ride Legally

Honor the Stop is a campaign promoting respectful use of the roads, but the only way bikers aren’t going to break any laws is if the laws are changed to reflect reasonable rules. You can’t expect a guy on a bike to stand at a red light for two minutes when there’s no traffic for miles around—of course, I would argue the same thing for a person in a car. Laws pertaining to cyclists should offer them the same right to the road that cars have but the protection that joggers and walkers enjoy. Also, they should be able to run red lights (after a quick, rolling stop) and ignore any stop signs with white borders.

I can not count on my fingers and toes the amount of bikers I have almost hit that were running red lights or stop signs. It sucks for a driver in a car to scream almost hitting a biker when one should have not been there and should have just used their breaks for a second to check and then see the car that is about to pummel them to pieces. But no they don’t and in turn I have to slam my breaks to not hit them, hoping there is not a Utah driver riding my bumper like Utah drivers do.

Got to love it. In Tokyo, if you hit a bike, you’re legally toast. So, while it’s not peaches and cream, folks learn to look out for you. Guess what, more folks ride bikes. Naturally, that’s changing as Japan westernizes and plumps up (McDonalds is everywhere!), but it’s still better.
When I drive my car, I’ve learned to look and where to look. It’s amazing…it can be done! Now, if they could just fix the smog…

Well, i really want some more cash, but i it just sucks that i cannot break the law and go to a bank and steal some money. sounds ridiculous right? that is because it is. I ride all the time, trail, long distance road, urban, and you know what? you have to obey the laws! you now have wheels and you are treated as a vehicle, so stop complaining and obey the laws! you can get ticketed for jay walking, so you also should be ticketed for ‘rolling’ through a stop sign. you know, everyone always knocking the auto drivers, and rightfully so, i have had my fair share of punching peoples mirrors and fenders, but i know that i am a responsible driver, and i cannot count the number of times that an asshole biker yelled at ME because i was making a legal turn and got in the way of a biker that wanted to cross the road illegally. OR! the number of times that i was walking, and a biker refuses to stop for me at a pedestrian right of way cross walk! so you know what? grow up, because you have to share the road with everyone, including cars and pedestrians.

The only people wearing these bracelets will be non-riders.

I wonder if those who run stop signs/lights when they AREN’T competly alone know that no only will they be crushified by that T-bone cross traffic, but by running a red they’ll be in the wrong and won’t even be able to sue for their medical expenses.
If it’s a stop sign bikers can wait their turn, if it’s a light and you have any traffic with you the light will turn green soon enough. If you decide to jaywalk, cross on red, take a dump in the intersection–you’re (presumably) an adult and can make your own decisions. Just know it will be no one’s fault but your own if you meet with a metalic 4 wheel end.
