How to Travel by Cargo Ship

travel-by-cargo-ship

After I saw The Royal Tenenbaums, I really wanted to travel by cargo ship. I also really wanted a Bloody Mary, and that was a much more realistic goal, but still, traveling by cargo ship is possible. The Traveler’s Notebook has a How-to for planning your cargo ship trip, and they tell you a little bit about what to expect. The bad news is that it costs about $80 to $140 per day, so it’s not like cargo ship travel is a cheap alternative to a trans-Atlantic flight. Then again, maybe you could get a job shoveling coal and save a little cash on the trip.
