Why Do Armed Forces Knives Need Corkscrews?

This thing must be for the James Bond contingent of the military. The KLAAS Federal Armed Forces Knife is a simple military knife that sells for about $50 and comes with a saw blade, knife blade, and corkscrew for—I guess opening wine that comes in MREs. Either way, if comes with the military recommendation from guys in the field at Kit Up, then it would probably be okay for me to cut open freeze dried food bags and throw into trees at the campsite.

So you pull the cork out of a wine bottle, that’s why.

To help with the interrogation process when waterboarding falls short? It does seem odd that on a minimalist knife they would include a corkscrew instead of some form of screwdriver. I guess if you’re manimal enough you could screw it into a tree as some form of anchor.

Scratch that, I missed the goofy end of the saw blade. Perhaps instead they could have used the space the corkscrew takes to make a compartment not unlike the toothpick and tweezers space and put in there a flint or a bar of magnesium. Besides a real man just karate chops the top off a bottle.
