Surfing Boiling Water Still Not Xtreme! Enough for X-Games

Pro surfer and candidate for Adrenalin-Addiction! treatment CJ Kanuha took his standup paddleboard in for a closer look at where the world’s most active volcano meets water. He paddled within 20ft of the lava flow and escaped with only the wax melted off his surfboard and burned feet. Things could have gone worse in nature’s hot tub for the young surfer with such a made-up-sounding name since water temps can hit 200C in some places.

I can just hear the guy now…
Oh here, let me show you how hard core I am by paddling my SUP in to boiling water. Now I’m not a pussy anymore.
What a douche.

Hey Rocky, the boiling water standup paddle guy on the big island is sort of a challenge, but on the upper Colorado they are really surfing mega whitewater on standup boards! We are running two great shots of rocking standup paddle wildman Dan Gavere in the Sept. issue of Standup surf & sail Journal… Dan rode the new standing wave above Glenwood Springs for TEN minutes at a time!
Keep on rockin’ (and paddlin’) in the free world,

You mean 200F?

No he means C as in Celsius to get F or Fahrenheit you would have to multiply the Celsius temperature by 9 then divide by 5 next you would add 32. So 200 C would be 392 F. Pretty damn hot either way. =)
