Avalanche Cords the Poor (dead) Man’s Beacon

avi-cord?

Someone’s certainly a big fan of Spiderman. Flash Avalanche is making these old-school avalanche cords. The wristy pack is designed to deploy four cords on impact with the hope that one reaches up to the surface after you’re buried. Searchers can then use it to cut through the avalanche debris to get a straight shot to you, and depth markings on the cord show them how far it is to get you out. If these things deploy, reach the surface, stay attached to your wrist and actually cut through the avalanche debris, then you have to hope your friends find the shortest way to your arm—it’s not exactly and airtight system. The Flash Avalanche cords cost about 55 Euros, which roughly converts to about a million dollars in the current economic climate.
