Snowboarding is the New “Most Dangerous Game”

Snowboarding accounted for 25% of hospital visits in the outdoor activities category in a study conducted at 63 hospitals over two years. Who would have guessed that guys who buy outdoor gear that’s outfitted with roach clips and stash pockets more often than not would be more likely to get into accidents? Sledding and hiking came next with 10.8% and 6.3% respectively—though not that respectively because those sports are a lot lamer than snowboarding. Skiing wasn’t even on the grid. You could argue that skiing is so much less dangerous than snowboarding because most skiers aren’t riding hairy lines or pushing the boundaries of their sport, but skiers won’t listen to you unless you’re wearing a one-piece and a racing helmet.

Um, why is it that skiers hold the record for highest height out of a 1/4 pipe and biggest cliff huck?

  2. skimaxpower Says:

I’m thinking that perhaps skiing has fewer injuries because ski bindings release on impact. Oh, and the helmets don’t hurt either.

I SWEAR TO GOD that snowboarding ski patrol pic is from my home ski hill– Little Switzerland in Slinger WI. No kidding.

Um, yes, you could argue that about skiing but it would be ridiculous. Since when are the average snowboarder “pushing the limits of their sport” more than skiers?

Skiers will hold this record in perpetuity…

snowboarding has a harder learner curve but easier to get good at, while skiing has an easier learning curve but harder to get good at.

I know many people who broke their wrist snowboarding…while in their learning stages.

And viva la snowboard revolución, fruit boots and all: http://youtube.com/watch?v=RZPBQIxXx9Y
isn’t this why snowboarding began? to stay away from one-sies and stiff boots?
