Bursford’s Ultimate Speedy Grocery Getter Track Bike

bursford-ultimate

Merging on the highway might be a problem when you hit the on ramp at 82mph. This bike was designed to break the landspeed record, but its creator Bruce Bursford died during a training ride before it could happen. He designed it over four years using Formula One cars and jet fighters as models. Even with that huge chainring the thing only weighed about 10 pounds. Might be tough getting going at stoplights, but once you hit 50mph things will even out.

You would think if he drew his inspiration from a jet or formula one car he would have put an engine of some sorts on it.

    No you wouldn’t.

Sure seems to be wasting weight with those endorsements on it. Though I’m suprised he wouldn’t actually WANT more weight to have the momentum help keep him going. I’d think the wind resistence at 50 mph would make this thing a real pain if it really weights so little. Was wind scooping it out from under him how the guy bit it?

almost….he was hit by a lorry.

I’m also interested in details regarding the creator’s carnage. I’m like that.

Run over by a van while out riding. Classic cycling hero’s death - run over by a soccer mom on the cell phone? Do they do that in the UK?
