Don’t let their hippy name tweak you out—Altarnative Technologies handmade bamboo surfboards look incredible. They sell at $900 for up to a 6’4” board with colored rubber rails with a natural bamboo woven bottom. You can have the topsheet customized, and rattan rails are available for another $100. Sadly, the Altarnative Technologies boards aren’t very organic since they start with an EPS foam blank and end with an epoxy laminate. The bamboo weave replaces some fiberglass making the board a little stronger, but really—it just looks rad. The company’s based in San Francisco and also makes bamboo skateboards.
