Backcountry.com Home Shopping Network?

Liberty Media, the company that owns QVC, is going to buy a controlling stake in Backcountry.com, my employer. I feel a little bad now after talking so much trash on some Backcountry competitors who were bought out by a bunch of gun totin’ Texans in white suits, but the owners here at Backcountry.com still have assured us that nothing will change.

This is from an email the CEO and co-founder Jim Holland sent to Backcountry.com staff (the parenthesis are my own):

John (Backcounry.com president and co-founder) and I remain significant investors in Backcountry.com and we will remain in our positions (except when it snows). Liberty is an appealing partner for many reason, but first and foremost we liked the approach they use where they leave companies like ours to run ourselves. They don’t intend to make any personnel changes and they won’t be sending any employees or managers to us; no suits roaming the halls (this is important for me since I work at home and it would get awkward if they sent Liberty people around).

Liberty also owns Match.com, though it doesn’t look like Backcountry.com employees will have back-end access to that site. I noticed that there’s no mention of The Goat blog in any press releases about the sale—hmm, that’s odd, they probably just forgot.

Bummer. How can I buy my gear from QVC?

  2. Andy Says:

Yeah, is backcountry.com moving to QVC - channel 2? No really, why did backcountry.com do this? I always figured they were a thriving business in no need of liquidation events, or are they planning to expand? I feel like I may have tipped them over buy purchasing their T1’s from steepandcheap. Oh well.

Listen up Raggedy Andy. HotKarl explained this very clearly and you are not paying attention. Stop stressing and focus on the task at hand. We need Mcfly 2015 Nike sneaks.

I was joking. I don’t really care who owns Backcountry.com, if they have gear I am looking for and the price is right i’ll buy it. I was just taking a jab at QVC.

Liberty Media just Purchased the Atlanta Braves, too. I guess in a round-about six degrees of Kevin Bacon sort-of-way, Backcountry Employess work for the Braves.
