Detail Shots of the Trek Coasting Bike

trek coasting drivetrain

BikePortland got a close-up look at the new Trek Coasting bike, and they put up a bunch of detail shots of the rear shifting system and the front hub generator that powers the auto shifter. So far it looks like a cross between a really, really clever marketing campaign and a fairly cheap plastic bike. Not that it’s a big deal, they’ll probably all end up sitting unridden in garages and basements all year—but let’s hope not.

Isn’t a coaster by definition powered only by gravity? Like maybe a bike with a busted drive train?
