Norovirus Outbreak at Arizona Ski Resort
By Rocky Thompson on March 5th, 2013Skiers who rode Sunrise Park Resort in Arizona last month reported becoming infected with Norovirus, the normally cruise-ship-related virus that is “often transmitted by fecally-contaminated food or water; by person-to-person contact, and through the air.” The highly contagious virus does well in cruise ships that are closed in spaces with very high densities of people not washing their hands. Ski resorts, which as many of you know are located outdoors, normally don’t have this kind of problem.

The news report is incorrect. Norovirus is not transmitted through the air, only through direct contact. Which kinda makes this more disgusting.
Is this related to the sewage snow? Fecal snow?
Gianni, most likely not. Sunrise doesn’t use reclaimed water for snow making. But I figured someone would try to blame it on that.
Can’t wait to ride there…
Forget last month. How about last week. I’ve been sick for 5 days with the virus. I skied one day with it. The fatigue really wiped me out. No more Sunrise this year. I’m a stickler for washing my hands and I still got it. Very contagious. I doubt they’ve cleaned it up. Don’t chance it.
Write a comment..we were there that weekend and 5 of us contracted the illness!
This story honestly does not surprise me. I’ve been snowboarding there for many years and it seems like everytime they have horrible customer service and questionable food items.I wont be going back. Save your money and go to Colorado or Utah, or even Snowbowl in Flagstaff Arizona if they have decent snow.
I was there that weekend, of the 15 people in my party 13 of them got sick. We threw up for days.
