Climber’s Story on Broken Sling on Sport Route
By Rocky Thompson on February 22nd, 2013Climber Mike Doyle had a scary moment on a sport route in the Virgin River Gorge in Arizona. He skipped a bolt, lost his footing, and took what would have been a very manageable fall. Then the sling holding his clip popped and he ended up 10 feet from the ground after starting out from about 60 to 65 feet in the air. He was okay, and his belay was a bit banged up from the experience. He wrote a good post about it that’s worth your time, and it’s a great reminder about not just checking gear, but keeping tabs on how long those slings that look fine have been hanging in the sun.
