15 Skiers Caught in A-Basin Avalanche Escape

While skiing on a ski-patroller-led outing at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area 15 skiers managed to escape an avalanche relatively unscathed. The slide was outside of the boundary of the resort, “but the resort said that it had undergone “extensive” avalanche mitigation and explosive work in recent days.” Only one skier in the group had to be taken out on a toboggan for a knee injury. I suspect A-Basin’s patroller-led outings will also undergo “extensive” mitigation in the coming days and weeks.

Update: They were inbounds at a closed area of the resort; and the CAIC has a report.

    Actually, the slide was in-bounds in an area that was closed.
