“41 MPH” Cycling Commuters in London’s Crosshairs
By Steve Casimiro on February 12th, 2013
After the witnessing the U.K. squad at last summer’s Olympics, it was obvious Brit cyclists were fast, but 41 miles an hour? That’s what the Sunday Times of London claims some commuters were registering on Strava — and the newspaper was blaming Strava. Too bad the claim was fairly laboriously debunked, and as any regular Strava user can tell you, the fault lies as much with the app missing data points in the dense forest of urban asphalt as it does with supposedly reckless lunatics on London’s streets. The most insightful part of the story actually was that England’s cyclists don’t have to obey the speed limit. It’s a law strictly for automotive transit, not commuters on bikes. Via BikeBiz.
