Thursday, February 28th, 2013

Panorama Mountain Village ski resort isn’t near anything. It’s outside B.C.’s East Kootenay and closer to the tiny village of Windermere. So that may explain why a fire that broke out Wednesday around one in the morning managed to pretty much destroy the entire top floor of 1000 Peaks Lodge before an eventual 27 firefighters [ more... ]

Worried About Drought? You Should Be

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

We are selfish little fun hogs who filter almost all news through the prism of outdoor recreation, but you know, things like thin snowpack and lack of water have much more profound impacts than just a lack of blower — and with 56 percent of the United States in formal drought conditions, it’s looking to [ more... ]

The latest Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue put Kate Upton in a bikini in Antarctica. Now, I’d thought that it would take a long time for Sports Illustrated to reach Siberia, but it seems many of the women there are emulating her moves, snowboarding in swimwear during -40C (-40F) temperatures. It’s a Daily Mail article, so [ more... ]

Mirror River: Source-to-Sea on the Colorado River in 3 Minutes

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

Mirror River // source to sea in 3 minutes from Will Stauffer-Norris on Vimeo.

Will Stauffer-Norris spent 113 days paddling down the Green and Colorado Rivers from source to sea. That seems like a long time, but imagine how much longer it would have taken if he’d gone sea to source. He also did us the tremendous favor of compressing his entire kayaking journey down to 3 minutes (we all know how some people can be with vacation photos…). I wonder what the customs officials are like on the irrigation canals in Mexico. This is his video, Mirror River.
