Boy Scouts May Lift Ban on Gays, Enter 20th Century

By Steve Casimiro on January 31st, 2013

scoutsThe Boy Scouts of America will meet next week in Irving, Texas, in part to discuss a proposed policy shift that would allow “the religious, civic, or educational organizations that oversee and deliver Scouting to determine how to address” the issue of openly gay scouts or scout leaders. “The Boy Scouts would not, under any circumstances, dictate a position to units, members, or parents.” The shift comes after decades of dodging or outright hostility toward the concept of homosexuality by the BSOA, but it’s not a done deal. Critics on the right, like Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian group and lobbying organization, said that if the scouts shift position their, “Legacy of producing great leaders will become yet another casualty of moral compromise.” Via L.A. If the BSA does indeed lift its ban, they’ll be entering the 20th century just in time to be left behind by the 21st. Many older gay people are bemoaning the fact that young gay people are leaving their traditional “gay culture” behind, and it won’t be long before these young gays will come of age and question the tradtional fundamental concept of homosexuality they’ve grown up with as well. Anthropology proves that homosexuality takes vastly different forms than the one it is currently taking, and has historically taken, in ours, and it’s only a matter of time before a younger generation thinks to ask why that factor still isn’t being taken into account 44 years after the Stonewall riots. Watch out, BSA. This is all just beginning!
