Utah Skier Buried in Avalanche Revived by Her Partner

By Rocky Thompson on January 23rd, 2013

skiers_utah_savedA duo skiing Mill Creek Canyon in Utah triggered an avalanche 700 feet wide that dropped over 800 feet. A 43-year-old woman was caught and buried, but she had a working transceiver and her partner was well prepared and able to locate and dig her out. She wasn’t breathing when he pulled her out and he couldn’t get cell service, but he succeeded in reviving her and moving her to an area where he could call for help. A helicopter was on the scene shortly after and the two were flown to the hospital in Salt Lake. Her injuries were originally classified as serious but her condition has been upgraded to fair. A happy ending to what I’m sure was the scariest afternoon of their lives. Training and preparedness paid off big time.
