Joshua Tree Spider Named After Bono
By Rocky Thompson on January 21st, 2013U2 frontman Bono has finally achieved the fame he’s so long sought. A biologist at Auburn University in Alabama discovered 33 new species of trapdoor spider, and he named one of the three that were found in the Mojave Desert after Bono. Prior the discovery, only 7 species of the trapdoor spider were known worldwide. A. bonoi is a nocturnal hunter that relies on vibrations in the ground to tell it when to pounce out of its burrow to attack. Hopefully you don’t fall asleep with one in your bivy sack next time you camp in Joshua Tree.
