Judge Blocks Ski Resort Expansion in Lake Tahoe
By Rocky Thompson on January 9th, 2013
A judge blocked a proposed expansion of Homewood Mountain Resort on the west shore of Lake Tahoe yesterday, saying that the developers had not adequately considered a smaller and less environmentally intrusive overhaul. The group had planned to add condos, shops, and a large, four-story hotel, hoping to turn the local-friendly (and money-losing) resort into an overnight destination for families with year-round attractions. The Sierra Club and Friends of the West Shore had brought the lawsuit. The developer does not plan to appeal the decision, but plans to look deeper into the environmental effects the expansion would have.
