This Is How Much It Will Cost to Climb Everest in 2013

Each year Alan Arnette calculates the costs of climbing the tallest peak in the world and shares the breakdown as well as what each guiding company is charging. The cheapest rings in at about $39k, while the most expensive will cost you about $85k (don’t forget to tip your Sherpa!). Besides the rather large outlay of cash, you’ll also have to take a few months off work, and there’s a fairly decent chance you’ll never make it back home. You’ll notice that Alan includes $5k in his budget under miscellaneous helicopter evacuation. I’d suggest leaving that one in no matter how far you try to cut costs. Also, get life insurance.
