Security Measures for Christmas Tree Thieves
By Rocky Thompson on December 18th, 2012After losing fir trees from city parks year after year, the City of Lincoln Nebraska took a security measure: they began spraying all the nice trees with a mixture of fox urine and glycerin and water. While outside in the cold, the urine remains odorless. But once the tree is cut down and taken inside, it stinks like you have 100 cats living in your home. The parks dept posts signs alerting would-be thieves that the trees have been sprayed with urine, and thefts have gone down dramatically. They recommend the process for citizens as well, or even just putting up a sign that says the trees were sprayed would probably be enough (just steal one of the signs from the park).
