Wagner Custom Skis: Shaped by Computers & Questionnaires
By Rocky Thompson on November 26th, 2012If you have more money than vacation days, maybe you’ll be interested in picking up some very expensive tailor-made skis that could make you a better skier. You know, instead of skiing more. Wagner Custom Skis is run out of a small shop near Telluride. The founder relies on a questionnaire regarding the persons physical measurements as well as skiing style and skills that’s fed through a program that spits out what custom skis the person needs. Any of you who have ever worked in a rental shop see the problem: everyone who gets skis thinks they’re a Type III skier. Pal, if you’re still renting skis, you don’t want your DIN set that high.
On the other hand, I’d love to support Mr. Wagner and his skis; I love anyone who carves out a living running a small shop, making gear that competes with these huge companies that run the industry. Perhaps custom skis will become more like custom surfboards and bike frames.
