UPS Cuts the Boy Scouts Loose

UPS joined Intel in cutting donations to the Boy Scouts of America as long as the group continues to discriminate against gay people. Pressure for UPS to drop the group from its philanthropic network came in the form of an online petition with 80k signatures. See, those things actually get result (though the MLB network still won’t replay the no-hitter Dock Ellis pitched after dropping acid no matter how many signatures that petition gets).
So just who’s still funding the Scouts? The New York Times offers an interesting report on the issue: “But now, as the Boy Scouts face growing calls to reverse their policy of excluding openly gay leaders and members, the predominance of Mormon and other religious sponsors is a complicating factor. Roman Catholic churches, which like the Mormons condemn homosexual behavior, account for an additional 10 percent of members, and over all, more than two-thirds of the country’s scout units are chartered by religious groups.”

Hard to imagine how screwed up one has to be to think not just sex but twisted sex has to be presented to small children. The Boy Scouts is about building character in the next generationn, not turning them into slaves to sexual addiction.
