Camping gear is expensive and there are plenty of us who may only get to head into the backcountry a handful of times each year. A new crowd source rental site has sprung up in the Bay Area called WeekendSwap.com that seeks to turn campers into rental agents. You set a price for your tent or backpack, including a deposit price, and local folks reserve your gear online and then pick it up. I’d be happy to rent out my tent, but I wouldn’t give out my sleeping bag. I’m afraid it’d come back with too much genetic material from coupling campers. So far about 80 people have signed up to use the site.
