WeekendSwap Looks to Bring Camping Gear to the Sharing Community
By Rocky Thompson on November 12th, 2012Camping gear is expensive and there are plenty of us who may only get to head into the backcountry a handful of times each year. A new crowd source rental site has sprung up in the Bay Area called WeekendSwap.com that seeks to turn campers into rental agents. You set a price for your tent or backpack, including a deposit price, and local folks reserve your gear online and then pick it up. I’d be happy to rent out my tent, but I wouldn’t give out my sleeping bag. I’m afraid it’d come back with too much genetic material from coupling campers. So far about 80 people have signed up to use the site.
