Scout Leader Wants to Take Troop to the North Pole

By Rocky Thompson on November 12th, 2012

In the annals of terrible ideas this Scouting notion is a standout. A 33-year-old British Scout leader is recruiting a group of 18 to 24 year olds to join him on an overland trek to the North Pole. Unless they’re having a plane drop them a mile from the pole to begin their walk, this will not end well. Impossible conditions, shifting ice, and extreme temperatures aren’t a good mix for building character. May I suggest they take a trek to the South Pole? It’s a bit further of a trip, sure, but the walking is much easier when you don’t have to deal with losing ground when you’re standing still.
