Report Says Tour de France to Finish on Mountain Stage

By Steve Casimiro on October 10th, 2012

Yeah, okay, whatever, the Tour de France is punishing. But the ceremonial finish down Champs Elysees, with the leader sipping champagne? It’s all so very French. And twee. You know what would be a million times more awesome? Let those legs and lungs we call people race to the death on an Alp and make the final stage a brutal mountain assault — and not just any Alp, but Alpe d’Huez. That’s the rumor, anyway, being floated by Belgian media, that the 2013 tour would finish atop one of the race’s most legendary climbs. No one really knows. It will be the 100th anniversary of the race and, while it’s never not finished near Paris, anything could happen. Via Cycling News.

With the pervasiveness of doping, does anyone care about professional cycling anymore?
