Couple Requires Rescue During Canoe Marriage Proposal

A Michigan couple became stranded on an island when a needlessly complex marriage proposal went awry. The duo canoed to an island where they ‘discovered a bottle’ that had a poem written in French. The woman, a French teacher, read the poem and accepted the marriage proposal. They then faced what is sure to be their easiest portion of wedding planning when they had to decide how to get off the island after a storm kicked up. A phone call to 911 later, the Sheriff dispatched a boat with two deputies to get them.

    What kind of self-respecting Michigan woman could marry a guy who couldn’t navigate a canoe in a storm or spend a night in the woods without calling 911? Especially since she’s a teacher and likely has summers off for more canoe adventures.

    He’d better be really rich or a master of cunning linguistics.

    Exactly. You’re on an island, you have a canoe. Wait the storm out, the paddle back. What is so hard about that?

    I don’t care who you are, that’s romantic in every sense of the word. Wow
