A National Park Grows, Thanks to Volunteers

Wildfires Likely to Break Record

The 2012 wildfire season will likely break the United States record for the most acres burned, set in 2006 when more than 9.8 million acres burned. According to the National Interagency Fire Center, nearly 8.4 million acres have burned across the United States as of September 18, an area larger than the state of Maryland. [ more... ]

Tourists Banned from Indian Tiger Preserves

The Supreme Court in India has temporarily banned tourism in core areas of the country’s 41 tiger reserves. The unexpected and controversial ruling is aimed at protecting the last of India’s 1,700 tigers. California’s Parks Protected for Two Years

Red Mountain Launches Expansion

B.C.’s Red Mountain is about to almost double — the powder magnet is adding another peak to its terrain, Grey, and increasing its acreage by nearly 1,000, to 2,682. Washington State Fires Nearing the Size of Seattle

Ski Resorts Spending Less Nationwide
