The Hunter Acting Like the Hunted: Utah Goatman Mystery Solved
By Rocky Thompson on July 25th, 2012The mystery of Utah’s loneliest performance artist has been solved. A man dressed up in a crudely made goat costume who was spotted tailing the animals has come forward. He’s a Southern California hunter who donned the outfit to better track his prey. A friend-of-a-friend of mine used to wear his old ski racing suit with a Holstein cow pattern while fishing streams that ran near a cow patch. If I didn’t take into account the fact that this guy was fishing for trout in a stream loaded with industrial farm runoff, I always thought his was a smart move. Our Utah Goatman was likely safe from hunters since the season doesn’t begin until September, but wildlife authorities said he also risked getting attacked by the goats or having them try to mate with him (I made that last part up).
